Find Your Place to Feel Inspired
There is a 100-year-old quarry in Victoria, British Columbia that had been dug out and depleted of its stone. Many such quarries are deserted and forgotten; some turn into swimming holes for local kids. But this quarry is different because of the vision of a remarkable family who turned it into one of the world’s most celebrated sunken gardens. Today, Butchart Gardens is a 55-acre wonder, featuring flowers and plants from all over the world.
Overlooking the sunken garden is a spot where you can pause and drink in the garden’s incredible beauty and serenity. No matter what’s going on in my life, when I stand in this spot I feel inspired, and connected to God and the beauty of this Earth.
It’s important to have your personal sanctuary, a place where you can go to reflect and feel inspired. Your spot may not be a garden. It may be a riverbank, a beach, a mountaintop, or a Buddhist temple or church. Find your spot and try to spend a little time there each year. It’s good for your soul.
